Air New Zealand flight review from PPT to AKL

Flying with Air New Zeland for the first time, on my flight from Tahiti Faa'a Papeete airport PPT in French Polynesia to Auckland airport AKL in New Zealand, it was a very pleasant surprise.

The checkin process was very smooth and efficient, and, as a StarAlliance Gold member, I could even get an upgraded seat for free, which included free food and beverages, and I did use it as much as possible during this 6 hours flight from Papeete to Auckland!

Flying with an Air New Zealand plane Boeing 787 from Papeete to Auckland, for my first time visiting New Zealand, which would be the 7th stop of my  World Tour   2019, and also my fiftieth country visited ever, the flight went great!

The Air New Zealand planes are pretty spacious and comfortable, at least for international flights.

Getting to my seat, a large pillow - larger than with other airlines, a blanket, which I never use, and a headset were waiting for me on the seat.

The headsets are so good with Air New Zeland, working with stereo, which usually isn't the case with other airlines, and so comfortable for the ears, that I actually kept them to use with my mobile phone and computer.

Below the seats in front of me, some power adapters were available, and were actually working even with European power plugs, which was great to charge my phone without having to use my power adapter.

Having a look at the screens provided on the front seat, they were large enough, but couldn't be inclined. It wasn't a problem on the flight, but might bother some other people when the seat in front of them is been reclined.

The movie options was pretty good, and of course including the most famous movies ever shot in New Zealand... the whole Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit trilogies!

The Air New Zealand alcoholic offering was pretty good, including complimentary sodas, wine, and sparkling wine!

The whole menu, including food and beverages, could be ordered directly from the seat screens, and actually must be ordered from there.

When requesting a cabin crew member to come to my seat to order a drink, they told me that I had to order through the screen.

Some other alcoholic options, such as stronger liquors like whiskey, had to be paid extra, which could be done directly on the screen by using the included credit card reader.

I didn't need to use that at all however, as I could drink amazing New Zealand sparkling wine for free during the whole flight, an amazing surprise that I was not expecting when boarding the plane earlier.

The wine was very good, and was a great introduction to New Zealand.

Air New Zealand economy food

The food choice was pretty good, as we could choose between pastas and chicken.

I asked for chicken, and got a nice meal with some vegetables, chicken in some kind of tomato sauce, and mashed potates on the side, all warm enough when I was being served.

On the side, a butter was given in single use portion, with a warm white bread, a portion of cheese, and some crackers, for the single usage food.

Also, a small salad was available, which proved itself tasty, and one dessert was given. The dessert was feeling a bit too much industrial, contrary to the rest of the Air New Zealand economy food which was pretty good and felt like freshly prepared.

Overall, the whole experience with Air New Zealand was great, and I would definitely fly with them again should I have the opportunity.

Their offering is above average, and the planes are very comfortable.
